Corporate Webpages VistaPrint Ltd.
VistaPrint is a manufacturer of those little trinkets used by
small commercial enterprises to advertise, such as refrigerator
magnets, pads, pens, brochures, etc. It has found that offering
a lot of stuff as free samples results in generating more
business and more profits despite the extensive cost of
producing free items. Like Zenith, it believes many of the best
things in life are free.
VistaPrint has a definite French connection from French venture
capitalists, and even though it is described by some as
competing with the likes of Office Depot, Staples, and Office
Max, it tends to form strategic alliances with these types of
companies. It also has a British connection as it is based in
Bermuda. Normally we do not like to review offshore-based
companies because of reduced reporting requirements. But
occasionally although not often, some elect to meet SEC reporting
standards, and this is one of them.
The first thing we noticed about VistaPrint is that it had the
highest Zenith Index we have encountered in a long time. That
implies the company has earnings growth and a strong balance sheet.
The company is unusual, and quite creative, as testified by some
of its happy employees. It will even design your business logo
for you for free. Researchers are neutral on the stock, but
analysts like it. Institutions overall are selling. We picked
a day to review the stock when it took a quantum leap upward in
price, gaining as much as 34% in a day. The company puts out a
steady stream of public relations news releases, many of which
look like advertisements, and also gave better-than-expected
guidance, which is what caused its share price to soar.
Achieving stable gross margins in a severe recessionary
environment has caused investors to pay a premium, as the
guidance suggest earningsin the range of 34 to 39 cents for the
next quarter, versus 35 cents as the mid-range projected by analysts.
One analyst complained the company faces limited visibility in
the year ahead and kept his recommendation at neutral. How
many people have heard of VistaPrint? But the company believes
if you use its products, your startup business will rapidly
become known, and this is exactly what it is doing in its own case.

Zenith uses the "sentiment" score above or below 50 to award a positive or negative point in the Decision Matrix.

The summary below includes a value for `Degree,' which refers on a
scale of 1 to 10 the range of a channel in the period under consi-
deration compared to the total range of price movement. It also looks
for the last closing price to be within the channel, otherwise zeroed.
The `Index' is the `Degree' weighted for volatility. Generally, the
the higher the index, the more suitable is the stock for trading as
a `rolling stock' between channel high and low points.

The following table details which MACD signals on the preceding chart are best taken. Originally, this was set up for a two-day span, but ten days gives a better sample. Unfortunately, with the 10-day span, the colored lines on the histogram are much harder to read. Both spans are shown above. Red turning into green on the histogram is a buy and green turning into red is a sell, but with the following conditions. The share price must have moved at least 0.2% away from the previous signal price in order to avoid whipsawing. More importantly, the +/- magnitude of the MACD (the blue line, which crosses the red line at signal time) must be greater than the minimum required magnitude indicated below. Otherwise, the signal is ignored. VPRT Minimum Magnitude MACD for Action = ± 0.0150 Ticker Day Time Hist.
