Eduoard Lalo
Soloist: Jascha Heifetz
This is Edward Lalo's famous violin concerto in D Minor, standard in the repertoire of many violinists. We have heard many renditions on various internet sites, but none come close to the classic performance by the world's greatest violinist accompanying by the RCA Victor Orchestra. In these early recording days before convention allowed either the orchestra drowning out the soloist or worse, the soloist drowning out the orchestra due to improper placement of electronic amplification, a proper balance was struck between the two. This is a rare recording, indeed. Although a truly great musician, Heifitz was perceived by some of his acquaintances to be rather distant or even unfriendly. An earlier great violinst, Paganini, had the same sort of temperment, and played barnyard sounds on his violin whenever he thought undesirables were listening. But we are not aware of Heifitz ever playing anything but the best sounds.
Please note: Lalo's concerto was originally written in 5 movements, but the third movement, "Intermezzo", was left out for some reason by Heifitz (perhaps he did not like it?) So we had to turn to Issac Stern to get the third movement, which is a little out of character with the rest of the performance.
These downloads will require an MP3 player such as Windows Media Player.
Appeal for help from any readers out there who are programmers: We would like to be able to offer .MP4 files to our readers.
Clicking on the link below works perfectly in the .html editor program "preview."
However, it does not come up at all when uploaded to the website. The message "The target cannot be found" when clicking on the link seems inaccurate as the target is located in the same directory under the same name, i.e. http//www.zenithtradehold.com/music1/13829.mp4. To make it more mystifying, the same technique works both in html editor preview and on the internet website for .mp3 files (as in the files above that work), but not .mp4.
We attempted to add the following code to no avail ("<>'s" left out for clarity.)
OBJECT TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" data=13829.mp4 width=425 height=428"
CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" WIDTH="160" HEIGHT="136"
PARAM NAME="src" VALUE="13829.mp4"
PARAM NAME="autoplay" VALUE="false"
EMBED SRC="13829.mp4" TYPE="image/x-macpaint"
PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download" WIDTH="160" HEIGHT="136" AUTOPLAY="true"
/EMBED
/OBJECT
We realize part of the problem will require converting the file type to ".swf" or changing the codebase and pluginspage to something else, but how and into what?
How can we get the above link to work on the internet as well as it does in the .html editor "preview?"
